Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....OH HI!! Sorry....just a little sleepy today.

I decided over the weekend that I need to be better about posting on this blog. So...I came up with a new resolution. I'm going to post something every day....ok...I take that back. I'm going to TRY to post something every day. I make no promises as to what you'll see here...but there will be something. I debated whether I should make this a 40 days of lent thing and commit to it for that amount of time, but that seemed strange since I'm not religious and the only reason I even noticed it was lent was because someone brought in treats for Fat Tuesday. It is lent right?

So the point of this post is...

I haven't had a vacation in almost 10 years. The closest I've gotten is a long weekend in Yosemite with T and N, but I don't think that really counts since two of the days were spent mostly in the car driving to and fro. (yes. fro).

So I've been perusing airlines and various travel websites for ideas and prices on a nice long vacation. I'm thinking sometime in June and taking a whole week. The problem I have is that since I don't vacation and don't travel anywhere fun for work I have no idea where to go. Before I open the floor to suggestions here are the criteria:

*sun and beaches. somewhere tropical or tropicalish (not mexico. too dangerous right now, plus I'm not about to ruin this one vacation with a bad case of Montezuma's revenge).
*relaxing, but with activities if we so desire (ie snorkeling, caves, hiking, or just
sitting on a beach)
*affordable. I'm well aware that vacations are expensive (that's why i haven't taken any), but I'm looking for a good deal. Most bang for my buck here.

Ok. Here is where I ask the intranets for advice...where have you gone? where have you stayed? would you go again? was it worth it?

OMG - Sandals Sandals Sandals!!! Go to a couples-only, no kids allowed and just relax and eat and drink all inclusive, and go on excursions for an affordable price! NEVER carry your purse around. I loved that! The best vacation Kevin and I EVER took was to Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica. What I wouldn't give to be back there right now!

if you like adventure and exploring and don't mind being in the most 3rd world part of the US, Vieques, PR. I think it was one of the most fun destinations we have been to - rustic, but you can find your luxury... white sand beaches, at the end of dirt roads, all to yourself. petty crime, but we didn't see any... lets see... other cool spots... there's always hawaii which is a sure bet... just can be a little more expensive. If you plan on staying on a resort, you can pretty much go anywhere where a beach is a beach... Dominican Republic, Mexico, etc. are perfectly safe, but I really think you get the culture somewhere else. What about south of france, coast of italy? beaches, and great food - although you could be spending a mucho euros. Vietnam or thailand? I would love to go to either... expensive to get there, but once you are there, really cheap.

What you're describing sounds suspiciously like my favorite place in the world: Kauai.

It has everything you seek.

I have been to the Dominican Republic and, while it was an interesting place to visit, would not go there for a vacation. But that's just me.

Yes, Jess, it's Lent...

We had a great time on our Alaskan cruise. Wonderful excursions, tons of food, plenty to do. Maui was terrific, too. I guess it just depends on what floats your boat.

COSTA RICA!! You can do this on the cheap or all out. Perfectly safe with really amazingly nice people. And there's loads to do! :)

Trust me on this one. ;)

One problem with Costa Rica: cloned dinosaurs.

I would second the cruise.

No matter where the destination, you tend to be protected, and the food - you can restrict your diet to whatever they have on the ship and you'll be fine.

In terms of cost, you'd have to shop around but it can be the cheapest vacation ever. $100/day if you don't need a water view window. Ask me when you see me next. Which will be before June.

just hope that the cruise ship food supply isn't tainted...
