Sunday Night Blues

Well....another weekend has passed. Again I feel like it was wasted. I'm not sure if there is anything I could do on these precious two days a week that would make me feel relaxed, rejuvinated and ready for another work week. I had a mental list of all the things I wanted to get accomplished this weekend. Laundry, paint the living room, re-pot some plants, lay down some grass seed and fill in the holes in the yard from Indy digging, organize my desk, UNPACK MY BAG from when I visited up north....the list could go on and on. What actually ended up happening feels so much less productive, sounds much more relaxing, and yet somehow wasn't at all. I did manage to get in a good run with the pooch, spend some quality time hanging out with Linus and Chris, discover a good recipe for sunday morning waffles, give the dog a bath, see Stardust and make some vanilla bean ice cream from scratch. Somehow, at the end of all that I'm still exhausted and not at all ready for another Monday...especially one that I know will be a demanding one.

I talked to my parents briefly tonight...and when I expressed a dread for the upcoming work week and a lack of enthusiasm for working in general, rather than tell me, "hey! it gets better!", they responded, "yup. us too. we know exactly how you feel". Well....at least I know that in 20 years I'll still feel the same every Sunday night. At least I have that kind of consistency.

On the bright side....I do have new hair!

You look great, Jess. Of course, you'd look terrific even if you were bald...

What's hard every Sunday night is realizing you have to give up your FREEDOM for the next 5 days. Pretty tough to get around that feeling. In place of your folks, though, I'll say "Don't worry, girl, it gets better." And it usually does...until next Sunday!

Now to be truthful, the more precise comment we left our daughter with (besides her cute haircut) was to remember: "only 5 more days until Friday!". There is always a silver lining, folks.

Regarding "giving up your freedom" -- that's a bunch of hooey. Don't listen to my brother, baby. If you don't like what you're doing, just change it. I've done that a few times, leaving places it was too painful to stay.

Sometimes the changes are painful, but slavery went out of style in 1865. Ain't no ball and chain on you. Go for what you want...

Dave -- thought you were a joseph campbell nut. whatever happened to "follow your bliss"?

A job--even the best job in the world--is still a job. In order to get a paycheck, you do what other people want you to do. Brother mine, would you rather fly across the globe to take care of someone else's mess, or stay home and fill your time with things you enjoy, things that enrich and satisfy you?

Sunday nights, after two days you control, are tough, because the next 5 days belong, at least in part, to someone else. (Remember the dread we all felt on Sundays, knowing we had to go to school the next day?) That was my point about freedom.

I agree, we should follow our bliss. Jess, if you hate what you're doing, move on. Wherever you go, you'll always have great hair!
